Forest for People (FFP) was established by founder and world-renowned conservation expert, Leif Cocks, as a result of his 25+ year career working with orangutans, other rainforest fauna, and supporting the indigenous rainforest communities to live and prosper sustainably within the last remaining viable rainforest ecosystems.

Established in 2023, Forests for People is a sister project to The Orangutan Project, International Elephant Project and International Tiger Project, which sit under the umbrella of Wildlife Conservation International, a multinational non-profit organisation that has contributed over USD$29 million to conservation projects across Indonesia and South-East Asia. Leif Cocks is the founder and President of The Orangutan Project, an international charity that has raised over $22 million for orangutan conservation since 1998. Leif also founded: Wildlife Asia, International Elephant Project, International Tiger Project, Forest for People, and is Vice President of the Orang Utan Republik Foundation.

TOP is a non-partisan organisation that collaborates with several orangutan conservation projects, as well as providing habitat protection and land acquisition through its own programs to deter wildlife poaching, illegal logging and land clearing in Indonesia. TOP's philosophy is to work flexibly and tailor what is necessary to get the job done for orangutan conservation and welfare, with TOP's organisations needs always subservient to the best outcome for orangutans.
Indigenous peoples have inhabited Indonesia's jungles for centuries, living in harmony with nature. Now, these forests are being taken over, exploited and destroyed at an alarming rate.
Depending on the forest for food, shelter, fuel and medicine, this loss of land is having a devastating impact. Communities are losing their resources, identity and culture. And the wildlife is suffering too.
